Showing Off: Maika Creations

Showing Off: Maika Creations

This week I am showcasing the talents of fellow BrisStyler (BrisStyle Inc) Caroline Taran creator at Maika. Maika provides fun children’s clothing and accessories handmade from new and recycled fabrics.

Caroline combines contemporary fabrics with high quality re-purposed fabrics and trims (eg. tableclothes, sheets, doilies)  to create One of a Kind (OOAK) pieces or items in limited quantity.  LOVE Caroline’s style? Caroline invites custom work, let her create something special just for you… or your little friend?

I have to say I was particularly impressed, as a mother of a boy, by the lovely ‘boy’ items offered  – boys are regularly overlooked when it comes to the handmade, but certainly not here!

I really enjoyed reading through Caroline’s fantastic blog and look forward to hearing more of her sewing and renovating adventures with a young family.  The photography is just as beautiful as her creations – just look at her Facebook banner – pin cushions just don’t look that good in ‘real life’ (well certainly not mine anyhoo).

I’m Showing Off: A Cat Like Curiosity

I’m Showing Off: A Cat Like Curiosity

This month I have decided to showcase some Etsy artisans beginning with the fabulously named: A Cat Like Curiosity552957_319699418104099_1281962667_n

A Cat Like Curiosity is the creative outlet of English artist Sarah Evans. Sarah offers up a beautiful collection of works focused predominately on digital and mixed media art. Her artwork is loving used to create bespoke jewellery items including necklaces and brooches.

Talking about her Etsy store Sarah says:

I have grown to love creating. The more time I devote to it the happier I feel. I literally spend every spare moment I have creating lovely things for people to view and hopefully welcome into their homes.

I literally couldn’t imagine my life without this store – it is so much a part of me and my vision of the future now.

I am happiest creating lovely gifts filled with inspiration, love and light. All of my work is infused by a desire to inspire and uplift.

And look at some of the lovely work she produces:

One of my favourite items from A Cat Like Curiosity is the pocket mantra cards – what a great idea! They are $10 plus postage but priceless inspiration on the go.

This Lil Piggy Tests the Online Market

Banner

This Lil Piggy launched it’s Facebook page in December 2012 and since then we have been working very hard to promote the page. It has hardly allowed any time for sewing.

Currently This Lil Piggy has 150 Facebook likers which I think is a great accomplishment in 4 weeks and I am humbled by the support. I love Facebook but it is not a great platform for sales. I found myself emailing clients back and forth, and quickly realised I need to trial the online markets. The added benefit of an online store rather than just the Facebook Business Page and traditional markets is that it provides more promotional opportunities for my products but for me to network too. Plus as MadeIt promotes it’s site: “the handmade market that is open all day everyday”.

At present I have opened two online stores as I’m not sure which will be best suited to my products, they both have their pros and cons. Please let me know about your preferences as a consumer. Do you shop in either, neither or both Etsy and MadeIt.com.au – and why?

As this is likely to be my last post for 2012 – Happy New Year! Thank you for your interest and support! Best Wishes for 2013!
